About the Conference

The number of road traffic deaths continues to rise steadily, reaching 1.35 million in 2016, as reported by (WHO 2018). To add to this, road traffic injuries are now the leading cause of death for children and young adults aged 5–29 years. The concern about road safety has significantly grown over the past years globally and in Qatar. The National Road Safety Action Plan was developed in 2013 as the first step towards achieving the ambitious vision outlined in the Qatar Road Safety Strategy (2013-2022) for “a safe road transport system that protects all road users from death and serious injury”. One of the action plans is to organize a bi-annual traffic safety conference to bring experts, scholars and practitioners of road safety together. In 2018, the 1st International Traffic Safety Conference (ITSC 2018) was organized in Doha from 26 – 27 November under the patronage of His Excellency, The Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani. The goal of ITSC is to showcase practical approaches and innovative solutions through multi-track platforms.

The International Road Federation is pleased to support once again the 2nd International Traffic Safety Conference to be held on 2023, at a date that will be communicated shortly. This second edition of ITSC will be jointly organized by Qatar Transportation and Traffic Safety Center (Qatar University), and National Traffic Safety Committee (NTSC) – Ministry of Interior, in collaboration with Ministry of Transport and Communications, Ministry of Public Health, General Directorate of Traffic, and Public Works Authority. The Conference theme is: “Towards A World-Class Safe and Sustainable Transport and Traffic System for Developing Countries” and the main objectives are to recognize the transportation needs for the developing countries and to introduce, improve and strengthen arrangements for monitoring serious injuries from road traffic crashes to facilitate action to meet the new targets for the Decade of Action for Road Safety.

Note: The organizing committee of the conference managed to attract sponsorship that allows it to waive fees (no fees payment) for presenters of accepted abstracts/full papers. Furthermore, online presentation is allowed for those who cannot travel to Qatar.

Journal Special Issues

ITSC 2022 invites you to share your research for potential publication in the Conference Proceedings. Selected articles will be considered for Journal Special Issues of well-reputed journals such as:
